Kruger Ceramic Membrane (KCM)

The Kruger Ceramic Membrane (KCM) Purification System utilizes a porous ceramic microfiltration membrane surface overlayed on a sturdy monolithic ceramic structure. The nominal pore size of the ceramic membrane surface is 0.1 micron which provides an effective barrier removing bacteria and protozoa such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia.

The ceramic microfiltration system provides stable treatment of raw water with widely varying inlet characteristics, while producing excellent filtered water quality. Low backwash frequency and dead end filtration results in high filtered water recovery rates and low energy consumption

The article "New Treatment Plant to Feature Ceramic Membranes" describes the process that will be installed to treat water from the Rueter-Hess Reservoir (RHR).

Ceramic Membrane Element

The unique characteristics of the ceramic membrane Elements allow Kruger to provide a microfiltration system that precisely meets the needs of the water treatment plant.

  • The ceramic membrane elements maintain reliable performance over a wide range of influent water quality, delivering long operational life.
  • The durable ceramic structure is highly resistant to extreme operating pressures, temperatures, pH, and chemical exposure with no damage to the ceramic element

Drinking Water Applications

  • TOC and DOC removal
  • DBP and EDC removal
  • Color removal
  • 4-log removal bacteria and 1 - 2 log removal virus
  • Direct filtration of high turbidity water
  • Combine with pre-treatment (coagulant, ozone, PAC) for enhanced membrane treatment
  • Wastewater Applications

    • Title 22 Reuse quality water
    • Treating secondary or tertiary effluent
    • Enhanced membrane operation when combined with upstream coagulation and ozonation
